Sold-Out Event Raises $90,000

Today, the Colorado chapter of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, announced results of its annual Mile High Gala dinner.

A sell-out crowd of 450 attended this year’s gala, held on April 24 at Exdo Event Center, raising $90,000.

"We had an incredible committee that worked all year to create buzz around the gala in order to sell out the event,” remarked co-chair Lisa Donato. “The Mile High Gala could not have been successful without our volunteers."

Special guests, award winners, and speakers included the following:

 HRC Ally Award: Emmy award-winning actress Crystal Chappell
 Guest Speaker: HRC Chief Diversity Officer Cuc Vu
 Special Guest Appearances: Michael Manning from MTV’s Real World DC, U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, and U.S. Representative Betsy Markey.
 Emcee: Feature news reporter Chris Parente
 Paul Hunter Award Recipient: Jim McNulty
 The Partners in Equality Award: Pueblo Human Relations Commission
 Guest Performers: Slam poet Andrea Gibson, Coles Whalen, DJ mLe, and DJ Markie.

"Our vision early on in the planning process was to create an entertaining, educational, and inspirational event for this year,” said co-chair Heather Nevill. “We had musicians, artists, speakers, and other entertainment that graciously donated their time and talents to help drive a compelling experience.”
