CultureHaus, a social and educational support group of the Denver Art Museum connecting the young at heart with art, has joined forces with Slow Food Denver to host “Heir to the Grown: A Fête for the Urban Locavore” on Wednesday, July 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Charpiot Building (1240 31st Street, Denver).

“Join us for one slow summer evening to celebrate the beauty of local food and art,” commented Anne Donley, one of the event organizers. “Proceeds from this event will support CultureHaus and Slow Food Denver’s educational programs.”

Heir to the Grown will feature Colorado wine and spirits and local fare presented by Barolo Grill Executive Chef, Brian Laird. Guests can enjoy the “GreenHaus” signature drink and have an opportunity to bid on artful containers submitted by local artists and designers showcasing edibles, plants and flowers.

“We’re thrilled to have famed chef Brian Laird prepare the food for this event in an effort to raise awareness of the local food movement,” commented Lee Stiffler-Meyer, event organizer from Slow Food Denver. “Laird has been a tremendous supporter of the local Slow Food movement, even volunteering his time in one of Slow Food Denver’s school garden projects.”

In 2006, Laird had the honor of being one of 1,000 chef delegates at the prestigious Terra Madre event hosted by Slow Food International in Italy. He will source produce, meat, and eggs from local farms for this event.

Tickets are $45 per person. For two people, tickets are $60 for CultureHaus or Slow Food members or $75 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at www.blacktie-colorado.com.

“Locavore” was coined by Chef Jessica Prentice on World Environment Day 2005 to describe the practice of eating food harvested within a 100-mile radius. Visit www.locavores.com.

The Slow Food movement was founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy to combat fast food. Now expanding globally to 122 countries, Slow Food promotes the importance of “buying local” and preserving cultural cuisine. CultureHaus, a social and educational extension of the Denver Art Museum, connects the young at heart with art. CultureHaus provides its members with a wide range of opportunities to learn about art and collecting. At exclusive events held nearly every month, members and guests can enjoy unique insights about art, private exhibition viewings, and the chance to meet other art enthusiasts. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and others formed CultureHaus in 1997 to create awareness for the Denver Art Museum and the arts amongst the 25 to 40 year-old demographic.
