Market is a Collaboration of Denver Non-Profit Organizations

MoodFood, a conglomerate of food and nutrition education organizations, announces the launch of the Youth Farmers Market at Fairview Elementary School (2715 W. 11th Ave, Denver), located in the Sun Valley neighborhood. The Fairview Youth Farmers Market operates every Sunday, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, through October 3 (on the northeast corner of 12th Avenue and Decatur Street) and provides fresh produce grown by the children at the school garden.

The Fairview market is one market of the Youth Farmers Market Coalition—a collaboration between two MoodFood organizations—Denver Urban Gardens and Slow Food Denver. Under the coalition, Denver Urban Gardens and Slow Food Denver each conduct farmers markets at their own school garden programs; Denver Urban Gardens manages the Fairview Youth Farmers Market. Additionally, Operation Frontline, another MoodFood organization, conducts nutrition demonstrations at Fairview and at other Youth Farmers Markets that are located at lower income schools.

“The Fairview Youth Farmers Market allows youth living in extremely challenging situations to learn horticultural, nutritional, and microenterprise skills that are supported by the school curriculum,” said Judy Elliot, education coordinator for Denver Urban Gardens. “Youth learn to appreciate the strength of diversity, both in the garden and with their multicultural teammates.”
